Madison Haley is a senior at Texas A&M and about to start the next chapter of her life; being a full-time nurse.

"I've always had a dream of becoming a nurse and that started when I was six years old. I was diagnosed with leukemia," Haley said. For two and a half years, she was treated at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston.

"I couldn't even begin to comprehend what was happening what was happening in my body, but I knew it was bad and I was very sick," Haley said. She remembers asking her mom if she was going to die.

Haley said she doesn't remember a lot about her time in the hospital except for one thing; her nurses.

"They would always play with me and just make me laugh," Haley said.

"Some days, they were the only people who could get me to smile because I just felt horrible." With graduation just months away, Haley's first job as a nurse is all too familiar.

"I've accepted a position at Texas Children's Hospital," she said, smiling. Haley is returning to the hospital that treated her as a child as a pediatric intensive care nurse.

Now cancer free, she still remembers her nurses.

"My nurse Janet and my nurse Judy," she said. Haley is still in touch with nurse Janet. She actually works at Texas Children's. Now, Haley will be her co-worker.

Haley hopes that her experience as a kid will help her relate to patients that might be going through some of the hardest times in their lives.

"If i can make even one six-year-old feel the way that I did, then it will all be worth it," Haley said.
