WHAT IS THE CLOTHESLINE PROJECT?
The Clothesline Project is a visual display that represents the voices and experiences of those directly impacted by power-based personal violence, as survivors, allies, supporters, or active bystanders. The color of each t-shirt represents a different type of violence, and every shirt included within the display is created by someone who has experienced, witnessed, helped, or lost a loved one to the crimes of sexual violence, domestic violence, dating violence, or stalking.
Every shirt in this display was made by someone at Texas A&M University or in the Bryan & College Station communities. Power-based personal violence happens everywhere, even in our own communities. It is on us to raise awareness and education of these issues so the narrative changes from “it doesn’t happen here” to “how can we be proactive in responding to these problems when we see or know about them.”
THE PURPOSE OF THIS DISPLAY
The purpose of The Clothesline Project is to increase awareness of the impact of violence and abuse, to honor survivors’ strength and resilience, and to break the silence that often surrounds their experiences. The Clothesline Project also strives to educate our community on how to identify different types of power-based personal violence and the resources, both on campus and in the community, that actively respond to these public health issues every day.
