Transportation Updates For Texas A&M Howdy Week, Move-In

In support of Howdy Week and Move-In activities, Texas A&M University Transportation Services is providing additional traffic management in highly congested areas during peak times beginning Saturday, Aug. 17 through Aug. 21.

Drivers in the campus community can expect delays during this peak traffic period and are asked to plan accordingly when traveling to and around campus.

Short-term unloading zones are available in designated locations on campus in an effort to ease the congestion and facilitate move-in for arriving students. These areas will be managed by officers and marked with signs.

Bicyclists are encouraged to use extreme caution, as certain bike lanes will be obstructed during move-in week.

“Our top priority for ‘Howdy Week,’ especially during move-in, is safety,” said Peter Lange, associate vice president for Transportation Services. “There will be many new members of the Aggie family arriving and we ask the community to use caution while driving on and around campus. We ask our bicyclists to use extreme caution when riding bikes through designated move-in areas.”

Areas to proceed with caution:

• On the Central and South areas of campus, students and parents will use Lubbock St. and Lot 6 as a temporary unloading zone on Sunday. Transportation Services officers will manage operations on Lubbock St. and vehicles will exit Lubbock St. by passing in front of the Commons Bldg.
• On the North area of campus, portions of Lot 30 will be designated and marked as temporary unloading zones. Transportation Services officers will manage operations at Asbury and Hogg Streets with unloading allowed curbside. Curbside parking or unloading is prohibited on Jones and Central Houston Streets. Hart Hall residents will have access to Lot 22 in addition to short-term curbside unloading in the Trigon on Saturday and Sunday.

“We welcome the newest members of the campus community and are confident the transportation plan we have in place will ensure their safe arrival to Texas A&M,” Lange said.
